I did not leave my “real” job to start the Indie Business Network because I was miserable and unhappy. I left because I did not want to become miserable and unhappy. Sadly, I saw the handwriting on the wall. I wanted to work, but a traditional work environment was too rigid for me. I looked for a flexible work situation that allowed me to enjoy life on my own terms, and when I couldn’t find one, I knew I’d have to establish my own. I did that in the form of a membership based business model, which has allowed me to enjoy more of life, or MO LIFE.
This post details the MO LIFE acronym I created to describe both what I was looking for and what I eventually manifested. And the best part is that if you want the same things, you can shape the same type of lifestyle business for yourself!
You can read about it below, or watch the video … or both … and join the discussion on Facebook! (To watch the video, be sure to turn up the volume using the slider in the bottom right corner.)
MO LIFE: The Acronym
M: Money
Like every business, a membership site business makes money. The difference is that a membership business produces that money on a predictable and recurring basis. Whether it’s weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, yearly, or whatever is appropriate for what you sell, a membership based business model provides a consistent structure for money to flow into it dependably and predictably.
O: Opportunity
No matter what you sell, you are in the service business. A membership site business creates a never-ending stream of opportunities for you to serve people. Whether it’s current members, people in their sphere of influence, or even prospective members, a membership site business delivers unending opportunities to serve and make the world a better place.
L: Leverage
No business can survive without a way to tell the world about what they do, and today, that means using social media. When you use social media to share how you serve your membership, you are marketing without marketing. You do this because the product is the marketing, and the marketing is the product.
I: Income streams
When your platform is a membership business, you naturally generate new income streams as you grow. This happens because your members tell you what they want more of. If you can provide it and they want or need it, you have created an organically occurring income stream.
F: Freedom
With a membership based business, you can work from anywhere. All you need is a laptop and a Wi-Fi connection and you can work just as easily from your home office as you can from a beach condominium, a co-working space, or the back set of your car. This is the chief reason why I created a membership based business … so I could be more available to my children, especially while they were young.
E: Ecosystem
A membership site business allows you to create a rich and evergreen ecosystem for your business. Entrepreneurship is messy, and to contain the mess, you need boundaries and limits. A membership is an entrepreneurial ecosystem that allows you, your business, and the members you serve to thrive beautifully and organically together. (You can read more about how to create an ecosystem for your business in this article.)
So, there you have it. More of life, or MO LIFE for short!
I best many of you can relate to a lot of part of this acronym. Let me know what you think in the comments below or join the discussion on Facebook.
Best and success!
